Amelie de Tourcadem

The book is a diary recorded by the French writer from February to November 2017, in which she recounts her experience of living with Raza, an Afghan refugee whom she picked up from the street to live with her and her family for a whole year. The clerk was recording those months, day by day, until the young Afghan left the house and went to live in a residence that was secured for him by his new employer.

The story seems very simple and just a civilized charitable act carried out by an educated woman who belongs to an educated family in the country of the Enlightenment, France. However, the story is much deeper than that. Those months that Al-Afghani spent in the writer’s house and with her family revealed many tragedies, including the story of the refugee and the suffering of the refugees in European societies claim enlightenment and practice the opposite.
